Cobra is awarded 299 MW Poolbeg open cycle power plant to facilitate further integration of renewables in ireland

Grupo Cobra, in consortium with Ansaldo Energía, has been awarded a contract for the construction of the 299 MW Poolbeg Open Cycle Power Plant by Irish electricity company, the Electricity Supply Board (ESB). The project is located adjacent to the seaport of Dublin, Ireland.

This large-scale project includes all engineering, construction, supply of materials and equipment, as well as the operation and maintenance of the plant. The plant will be equipped with a state-of-the-art AE94.3A gas turbine and associated generator, providing a total capacity of 299 MW. This additional capacity will allow the Irish electricity system to facilitate more power from renewable energy sources, acting as a crucial back-up generator.

Scheduled for completion in early 2027, the facility is expected to make a significant contribution to Ireland’s energy infrastructure, strengthening the stability and resilience of the country’s electricity grid. The addition of this new plant will help meet growing energy demand and facilitate greater integration of renewable energy, promoting a more sustainable and reliable energy system.

Grupo Cobra has extensive experience in the construction of both open and combined cycle power plants. Throughout its history, it has built approximately 11 GW of installed capacity in several countries, including Spain, Mexico, Portugal, Ireland, Germany, Peru, Brazil, Ivory Coast and Belgium. This experience and technical capacity consolidate Grupo Cobra as an international benchmark in the energy sector.
